NIARK1 — Sébastien Feraut

Sébastien Feraut, known as Niark1, is a French artist and illustrator based in Montpellier, France. His work lives at the intersection of the visceral and the fantastical — a universe populated by monsters, mutant creatures, and distorted portraits that stare back with unsettling familiarity.

A hybrid practice

Niark1's work is built on a constant dialogue between digital and analog — not as opposing forces, but as complementary media, each feeding the other. Collage is central to his process: fragments torn, layered, and reassembled, whether physically on a table or digitally on screen. The gesture is the same — disrupting, recombining, finding unexpected connections between unrelated elements.

Nothing is fixed from the start. Each work begins as an exploration, a series of experiments that may shift direction entirely before arriving somewhere new. That openness is deliberate. Niark1's visual language draws from a lineage of restless movements — Cubism's fractured perspectives, the raw energy of punk aesthetics, the absurdist provocation of Dada, the uncanny logic of Surrealism — filtered through the lens of illustration, where image-making meets graphic instinct and controlled accident.

The result is work that resists easy categorization: too raw for decoration, too precise for chaos.

An universe of its own

Skulls that grin. Beasts that float. Portraits that stare back. Whether on a gallery wall, a concert poster, or wheat-pasted in the street, the work is immediately recognizable — and impossible to place in a single box.

Selected collaborations

Niark1's art has reached audiences far beyond the gallery space. His gig poster work includes official prints for Red Hot Chili Peppers, David Byrne, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and Pearl Jam — produced as limited-edition screen prints for international tours. He has also worked with major music festivals — including Rock en Seine — alongside a roster of prestigious clients across music, culture, and publishing.

In parallel, his work is shown regularly in group and solo exhibitions across France and internationally, placing his practice firmly within the contemporary art and illustration scene.

These collaborations and exhibitions are not sidelines — they are part of the same exploration, the same restless desire to put the work in front of new eyes, in new contexts.
